The room was quiet and still and a small layer of dust hung in the air of the old office. The room had fallen into a state of disrepair from use, and as the door opened and a fresh spring breeze filled the room it brought with it more dust, and light. Markus covered his mouth with his uniform and coughed feeling the burn of dust on his lungs. “Did the previous captain ever use this room? It looks like it hasn’t seen human contact in months.”

The dust had left the once hard brown wood looking depressingly grey and the former captain had not been one for decorations as all the walls were barren. It seemed like the only furniture in the room was the mahogany desk that sat in the center of the room guarded on both sides by two small chairs. The chair behind the desk looked like it hadn’t been used in an eternity but an impression had been left by the former captain. Markus shook his head and walked back into the courtyard picking up the bucket of soapy water, and mop. “This probably won’t be enough.” Markus said as the mop hit the dust with a thud. This task was slightly beneath him that was true, but the former captain had been a friend, and although it had been years between his death, and Markus’s promotion. Markus had felt it was his job to clean the old office especially since it was now his office.

Markus started with a dry sweep of the room the broom kicking up enough dust that it almost blinded him. When the previous captain had left the immortal coil Markus had been the vice-captain, and had ordered the room off-limits, he thought that it would have only been a few weeks until he could reopen it, but it had actually taken ten years for Markus to earn his new position, and that’s why every time he moved his broom it kicked up a small country’s worth of dirt. “There is an easier way idiot. Markus blinked hearing the faint coo of his spirits voice. “No your easier way would have me blowing up the room and then having fourth squad rebuild it. So we shan’t be doing that Tempra.”

The bird spirit made a disgruntled noise and went silent. It’s equivalent of telling Markus to jog on and die. With a small shrug Markus picked up where he was with cleaning the office, and after a short while the floor actually resembled the hard wood that it was supposed to. And with that done Markus turned to the desk, blinking he walked out into the courtyard and gave a small yell. “Anyone willing to help me move a desk?”

"C-Captain? Captain A-Alistair?" The frantic reply came from a small woman with dark gray locks of hair, and a pair of red glasses sitting on her nose. The woman was nervous, she had become fuku-taicho only weeks before not knowing who was in charge of this squad. Relina had been moved here from the fifth squad to come help out here. Peeking her head into the office slightly blush coloured her cheeks. That was her new captain? Why she was taller than him easily! He needed help with the desk, that was what he said right? Stepping into the room the blue eyes widened for a moment. It looked immaculate in the room compared to how it had been mere moments before. "Wow! It's so much cleaner in here!" Came the chipper commented before shooting a glance to the munchkin of a captain that was standing there in the room. Her spiritual animal was chuckling in an amused manner as she stood there awkwardly looking to the large wooden desk that dominated one corner of the room. Well... There was a problem. How was either of them going to muster the strength to pick this up? Her feet made the slightest of clacking noises as she moved further in the room, her badge showing on her arm.

"Where do you want to move it Taicho?" Her voice was cautious as she stood there in the warmth of the large office. Her fingers twitched slightly at the anticipation of picking up the furniture. The soft swish of her uniform seemed to be the only noise before she moved closer to the desk offering a glance in her captain's direction. Man he was a midget. Her mouth twitched into the slightest of smiles at that. They wouldn't have made him a captain if he couldn't have handled things properly on his own. She would never out right challenge a captain's standing. Once at the desk she hooked her fingers around the edge heaving it with her strength to help hoist it up partially so that it could be moved where ever the midget of a man wanted it. The blue eyes watched him with a gentle twinkle to them.

Markus gave a ‘small’ smile as he greeted his vice-captain. She was small yet easily still taller than him, but looking her over his eyes focusing ever so lightly on her T and A department, and he gave a small silent inward sigh that his vice-captain was about as flat as a cardboard box though she did have a slight moa appeal to her by the saving grace that she was cute and small. “Please I am not much for tittles just call me Markus.” He said in a soft relaxed tone of voice which seemed to contrast her more high tense and chipper tone.

Markus was small in truth he was about five feet from becoming a midget and that was never a point in his favor, if she was small he was downright tiny because even she managed to tower over his red hair by a few inches. Still his green eyes closed with a smile and he gave a nod and was thankful for her help. “Truth is it’s not the strength that’s the problem even in my shape a desk isn’t heavy, its just awkward for… one person to carry.” Markus said as he walked up to the desk and with her help was able to pick up the large furniture.

Markus braced himself as he and Relina moved the desk towards the door and eventually into the courtyard. Markus sighed he was pretty sure that Relina was laughing on the inside. He had seen many a woman’s reaction to his height and knew what most people thought of the pale and frail captain. Still he put those thoughts aside and did his best to ignore the nagging feeling that she was calling him midget inside her head. After all if he was going to regret her boob size then she could regret his height, and they could both sit back and act professional.

“Thanks for the help, tell me how are you adjusting to the thirteenth squad? It is often hard for some people to come back to the academy even if you’re teaching this time around.” Markus said with a slight yawn as he stretched. There was a new desk coming later in the day, but for now the walls still needed care and washing, and the entire room still had an odd smell to it that he still needed to track down. All in all his work wouldn’t be done until the sun was much farther down in the sky, but he sat down for a moment in the garden and decided to take a break from it.
