Broken fingers of wind passed through the branches of the surrounding trees, bending them with a strong grip, and easing gently away. Hibiki's small frame stood out in sharp contrast to the environment in drastic manner. Where natural colors blended seamlessly, with dull greens, hearty browns, and an array of vivid flowers, he was a fairy among the scenery, with his snow white hair and piercing amber eyes. Even more so, his lithe step as he danced about the clearing would have convinced any person of some form of magic that played before their eyes.

However, the dance was a deadly one. A swift pirouette on the right foot, leaning forward, and a soft swish as his left arm came down, a blur of silver, and reached across his body. The momentum carried up and he pushed off the ground and inverted in the air, whirling upside down for a moment before inertia righted him and gravity brought him back to earth in a puff of dirt, and he slid into the next form.

It would continue like this for hours, the daily grind of training, practicing, and perfecting his skills. Still, it eventually had to end. Hibiki came down from a high-vaulted somersault, panting heavily, sweat drenching his bare-chested form, making his battle scars visible with the sheen. The sickly sweet smell of night-blossoming flowers began to permeate the air in the waning sunlight. Donning his clothes, Hibiki made his way through the forestry, his body knowing the path, despite the lack thereof.

So engrossed was he in his own world, thinking up new combinations and styles, he failed to notice the presence near him as he came out onto the actual trail. Overhanging trees made a sort of sheltered covering, their thick branches woven together by nature. A few figures wandered either way, and the occasional couple could be seen holding hands and mooning over one another. A fellow Shinigami, Cato, fell in step beside him.

"Whoa, you smell!" he said in greeting, wafting a hand in front of his nose and pulling a playful face.

Hibiki's lips spread into a smirk as he responded with a quick hook around the younger one's neck, and twisted his fist into the top of his brown-headed scalp. When Cato managed to pull away, he scowled childishly at Hibiki and tried to mend his now messy hair.

"So, tell me Cato, what's goin' on these days?" he asked, both wanting to know of any news, and to catch up, since his friend was usually busy these days, being a courier and all. Always one to have something fresh, Cato did not disappoint.

"Well, most part, nothin' really. Normal stuff, 'cept the message I'm taking up to Captain Commander now. Real urgent like, didn't even know who it was from. Prob'ly just some kind of request for permission for somethin' another one of Twelve's experiments."

At the mention of 12th squad, the usually chipper individual shuddered, Hibiki almost wanted to laugh, but refrained.

"Anyways, gotta head off. See ya 'round, Hibiki, take care!" and with that, he was gone, Flash Stepping away down the now deserted lane. It was only then that Hibiki noticed the presence of someone else, obviously skilled in lowering their Spiritual Pressure to virtually nil.

"Who's there?" he questioned to the inky blackness that was just past the treeline behind him, his thumbs playing at the corners of his hilts, ready to proceed into direct attack if need be.

Garen had arrived at the forested scene. Even in the beauty and grace of this garden of green, his presence shined like a beacon of truth, of light. The Sexta Espada was leaned to his right against a large tree trunk, his arm curled and palm acting as a surface for his resting head. His fingers were entrenched within his red, long, smooth hair. His brows were aloof and his eyes half shut, providing the Arrancar with a disposition not fitting for a being of such goodness, of such light. His left foot lay atop his right one, the blood within the latter thinning and beginning to numb. He wore baggy, white trousers and a white, open-faced white jacket. But all that didn't matter, for he had felt a presence near. He had been watching this almost mythical looking creature. He could see it from where he stood.

An interesting creature, to say the least. Garen had seen in this being a lightness unrivaled. And to say the least, he had been overcome with warmth when he first had felt its presence. Shinigami were such gentle creatures...but even deadlier foes. As the creature turned in Garen's direction, the Arrancar's eyes peered directly at the fairy's visage. Heavenly yet unwelcoming, both light and wrath it embodied.

"Who's there?"

The Sexta Espada smiles, but not any ordinary smile. The sides of his gape rise to abnormal levels, almost beyond anatomical plausibility. His eyes close and re-open slowly yet halt just half way open. His dark, almost black pupils glare at the resurfaced monster. He saw the creature's true form. In the form of pure, vindictive Reiryoku. He could see, he could smell...he could sense the Shinigami's true intent. Garen's blinks once more.

Unmoving, Garen finally exclaims. "Shinigami, your presence is both inspiring and dreadful." He pauses for a brief moment, his expression remaining blank. "Do you know what I am?"

Like flipping off a fan, the wind gave a last, meager push and fell away. The pleasant night air suddenly seemed to grow a little colder as Hibiki's eyes locked on the only other being in sight. A dripping halo of red, over a crisp white provided a frame for the eerie face that now analyzed him. Something wasn't quite right about the way his lips curled up... and up and up, like some horrid parody of a jester. The narrowed eyes, almost shut, made Hibiki shudder, his snow-white hair quaking as he took a cautious half-step back, his brow furrowing as he tilted his angular face slightly forward, providing a sharp glare.

The compliment he was given echoed in his own mind, as his feeling towards it and towards what his gut was telling him. However, he stilled himself internally, and stood back up straight, relaxing. Now it was his turn to analyze the creature before him, a quick sweep with his eyes as he eased himself. Reaching out mentally, he felt around for the familiar touch of Reiryoku. Instead, what he felt was much the same, but of a grittier nature. He didn't let any of his emotions show as the left corner of his lips knifed their way up, his gritted, sharp teeth clearly focused in the ferocious smile.

"You could be a great many things, aside from what you are. For instance, you could be an adulterer. Or even a figment of my imagination. But, yes, Arrancar, I know what you are. What number would you be, hm?" he asked, not quite mocking, and not quite angry.

The tendons on the top of his bare feet twitched, wanting to move. However, he simply dropped his right hip, leaning to his left, and tucked his arms behind his head, his eyes scouring every shred of the lanky figure before him for a number, a way to gauge his strength, if and when push came to shove. His heart raced like a panicked bird at the edges of a cage, though his face betrayed naught as he slid his gaze back to those dark, analyzing eyes, awaiting the next words or any action at all, though this man seemed more curious than malevolent.
